Pair of oak linenfold panels

Origin: England

Date: Probably early 16th century

Pair of carved oak linenfold panels of deep rich colour, the backs chamfered. Each back with a modern ring for hanging.

One 41.0 x 24.7 cm, the other 39.8 x 24.7 cm

Condition: Smaller panel with cracks (only part way and not affecting stability)

Price:
Sorry, this item has been sold.

Notes:
The panels, although clearly from the same panelling and both the same width (9 inches), are slightly different lengths. That includes the linenfold carving on the surfaces; whereas the raised carving is about 14 inches max long on the longer panel it is only about 13 inches long on the shorter panel. The panels themselves are 16 inches and 15 inches long respectively.

Comments:
These panels bear clear marks of having been in a joined framework and are probably period.

Provenance:
West Sussex
