Roman bronze lamp

Period: Roman

Origin: Europe

Date: 50 – 150 AD


Roman cast bronze lamp with continuous beaded rim around discus and nozzle, matching beaded rim around filling-hole. With ring handle and crescent handle-ornament. High foot with concentric rings on the base.

Fabric: Copper alloy.

Size: L. 8.6 cm

Condition: Losses to handle ornament as seen.

Comments:
Excellent example of a classic Roman bronze lamp. This type was favoured by the Roman military stationed in Europe.

Ex collection of Robert Flourance, Virginia USA, acquired 1970s-80s.
