Period: Byzantine / Islamic

Origin: Levant, probably northern Jordan

Date: 550 – 800 AD

Description:
Oval body with large central filling hole with rim, dot border and radiating ridges on steep shoulders. Curled ridges between filling hole and wick hole. High elliptical-section handle bifurcated at top. Indistinct base ring.

Fabric: Orange clay.

Manufacture: Mould made.

Condition: Indistinct with encrustation.

Comments:
This is the tongue-handle variant of the 'Jerash' type of lamp as opposed to the contemporary zoomorphic-handle variant (Kehrberg).
